The Stratford Boys Freshman A Basketball Team has come out strong in 2024, going 3-1 in four District games over the past two weeks.

vs. Cy Ridge

Coming off the holidays, the Freshman A Spartans faced Cy Ridge and held on for a dramatic 56-54 victory. Against Cy Ridge, the Spartans were led in scoring by Jackie Hope (17), Gabe Moctezuma (9), and Francisco Blanco (7).

vs. Memorial

Following the victory against Cy Ridge, the Freshman A Spartans came out firing in the rivalry showdown against Memorial at Memorial High School. The Spartans outran and outplayed the Mustangs from the jump, taking a 33-20 lead into the half. Stratford continued its solid play in the second half, taking down Memorial 70-62. The Spartans had a balanced attack against Memorial, with 8 players scoring, led by Jackie Hope (15), Teagan Tedrow (11), Ryan White (10), and Jackson Lisle (9).

vs. Jersey Village

In their toughest game in District play yet this season, the Freshman A Spartans faced off against Jersey Village in a low-scoring, defensive affair. After a 16-13 deficit at halftime, the Spartans put some offense together in the second half, coming back to take the lead but losing a close match in the final few minutes, 40-43, giving the Freshman A Spartans their first loss in District. Against Jersey Village, the Spartans were led in scoring by Asa Rigo (12), followed by Teagan Tedrow (8), and John Briggs (6).

vs. Cy Creek

This past Friday, the Spartans turned their season back around following the loss to Jersey Village with a commanding 53-37 victory over Cypress Creek. Teagan Tedrow led the team in scoring with 10, followed by four players with 7 each (Jackie Hope, Asa Rigo, Ryan White, and Connor Wohlfahrt). The team played their best and most cohesive game as a team this season, with 9 different players scoring and suffocating defense across the board, holding Cy Creek to 13 total second-half points.

The Freshman A Spartans now sit at 15-5 on the season, and 5-1 in District. The team will start its second half of District play this Wednesday against Northbrook (away at 4 pm), followed by a home game against Spring Woods on Saturday (at 9 am). Go Spartans!
