Our JV Lady Spartans travelled to Cy Creek. The first quarter revealed that the game was going to be called loosely-officiated with most fouls going unpunished. There was quite a bit of pushing, shoving, and holding for rebounds and on shots that was simply not called. Rylah Barnes and Jordan Lundy did their best to grab as many rebounds as they could but were unable to do so since they were constantly being pushed from behind. A nice sequence began with a strong rebound by Jordan, who gave the outlet to Camille Warren. Camille looked up the court and tossed a lob pass over the group of defenders to Riley O’Connor. Riley controlled the pass and sprinted past the defenders for the layup. Jordan and Riley both kept the opponent away from the basket with two intimidating blocks. We were down by two points after the first quarter.

Fouls began to pile up for our JV Lady Spartans in the second quarter to the advantage of Cy Creek. Katherine Cronin and Camille Warren were able to move the ball around the perimeter and find some open looks for teammates. Some quick passing confused the opponent and a nifty assist from Camille to Emerson Berg at the block turned into an easy bucket. Katherine found Riley for an open three-pointer that swished through the net. Kendall Parker had a sweet bucket from mid-range. Caroline White gave everything she had with two steals. None the less, we were down 15-16 heading into the half.

The third quarter saw very little scoring from either side as the play continued to grow in uncalled physical fashion. Jordan Lundy had another great block to prevent an easy put-back. Both teams traded steals and turnovers. Sophia French’s great anticipation led to a steal and fast break. After a long quarter with plenty of action, there wasn’t much movement on the scoreboard with a score of 17-20.

The physical play in the fourth quarter was even more on display than in the previous three quarters. Jordan had her third block of the game. Camille, Riley, and Rylah all had steals that led to fast breaks. The faster we moved the ball around, the more open looks we had. Unfortunately, there was some chaos in the final minute that was a point of confusion. Riley was fouled, but after a meeting of the officials, a mysterious call was made against our team and two shots were awarded to the other team. After running out the clock, Cy Creek stole the victory from us with a score of 26-27.
