Stratford 38 vs. Cy Creek 14

The Spartans hit the road Friday to take on the Cy Creek Cougars. The result would be similar to the first meeting as Stratford would cruise to an easy win.

In the first quarter, the Spartans outscored the Cougars by 15 and they never looked back. Scoring was led by Sophia Prejean with six to go along with four blocks on her way to nine blocks on the game. Most of the team got in on the act as Claire Kadane and Brooke Sponsel each added four points, and Madeline John got a bucket. Zoe Thompson,  making a return after some time away for injury, got to the line for a free throw as well. The end of the first was 17-2, Spartans.

The second saw Zoe make multiple steals that led to baskets as she tallied 5 points for the quarter. Brooke added another bucket as well. The Cougars were able to find a way to get some shots in and tried to make a little run, but the score at half would end 24-10,  Spartans.

In the third quarter, the girls shut down Cy Creek and didn’t allow a point. The entire team stepped up the pressure, and of note Aniyah Cunningham, Phoebe Heidel, and Ginger Koss grabbed multiple rebounds and did a good job of pressuring the ball. Allie Moss and Abigail Williams got in on the scoring with Allie hitting a free throw and Abigail getting a bucket and free throw. Zoe and Sophia each added a basket as well. The Spartans had a comfortable lead after three: 32-10.

The Spartans just needed to finish things off, and they did so, only allowing the Cougars to score four points in the final quarter. Allie added two buckets, and Madeline got a jumper as well to close out the scoring. Another District win for the Spartans, 38-14.
