Stratford’s Sophomore Basketball Team had a 2-0 week, beating Klein 33-29 in a defensive battle on Tuesday December 12th and then easing past Northbrook 69-8 on Friday.

vs. Klein

Just 4-4 after the first quarter and down 15-11 at halftime, the game stayed close until the end. Tied at 29 all with under a minute to play, Jack Seely was fouled, stepped to the line, and calmly made two shots. After a strong defensive possession, Stratford controlled the rebound and called timeout. Desperate, Klein was forced to press. Stratford maintained their poise, evaded traps with passes,  and found William Ubell for an easy layup with 22 seconds left to produce the final result. Stratford’s interior defense throughout the game was stellar, as Klein only scored on 3-pointers or foul shots. Thanks to all of the parents and other supporters who braved some horrible traffic to make it to at least catch a portion of the game, most certainly less than they anticipated when they left home or work.

vs. Northbrook

Friday saw the start of District play against Northbrook, and Stratford started out aggressively, jumping out to a 19-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and really coasting from there. The domination continued throughout the first half, as it ended 49-4. The margin allowed for balanced minutes and scoring for the team, extended offensive possessions to work through plays and a conservative defense in the 2nd half. In what proved a merciful final buzzer, the game ended 67-8.

The Sophomore team plays Tuesday (12/19) afternoon at Spring Woods High School before breaking for the holidays and returning to a stepped-up District schedule in January.
