Our JV Lady Spartans travelled out to play the Cy Fair Bobcats. The first quarter started out slowly due to too many unforced errors and being out-rebounded. Caroline White brought energy wherever she was on the court with strong closeouts and boxing out for rebounds. Unfortunately, we finished the first quarter with a 5 -16 deficit.
After some adjustments during the break, the JV Lady Spartans came out with a spark. Caroline Cronin started off the quarter with a steal on the defensive side of the court and hit a clutch three-pointer from a Jordyn Lundy assist. Riley O’Connor also joined the action with 10 points, including hitting two three-pointers. The shift from an intense man-to-man defense helped close the gap to 24-29.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth struggle between the two squads. Rylah Barnes grabbed numerous boards and quick-started the transition offense, which led to some easy points off some fast-breaks. Riley O’Connor’s sharp-shooting continued with another pair of three-pointers. Our JV Lady Spartans came within two points at the end of the period. They only trailed 39-41.
After more trading baskets in the fourth quarter, we found ourselves within two points of tying the game with less than a minute to go in regulation. Caroline White had a steal on their inbound pass but barely missed her jumper. Riley O’Connor crashed the boards and attempted a put-back that rolled around the rim and decided to not fall into the hoop. Our JV Lady Spartans barely lost with a score of 49-51.
