Your Stratford Spartans Varsity Football Team faced highly ranked Summer Creek on Saturday, 11/25, in the Regional Semifinals (third round) at Tomball Stadium.

The SHS offense came out tight and didn’t have much success with a three-and-out and a punt.

Summer Creek started their first offensive possession with good field position at their 47 yard line. Despite some nice plays by Bo Harrison and Tiergan Burl, SCHS used a balanced attack to quickly move down the field for the first score of the game with 9:15 remaining on the 1st quarter clock.

A different SHS offense came out on their second drive. Aaron DeLeon found Braxton Wakefield, Luke Rives, and Hunter Biehl for some huge first down receptions. Jack Stewart pulled in a TD on a slant from about 10 yards out for SHS’s first score of the game. A two-point attempt failed, making it 7-6 SCHS. Mac Greene and the SHS kickoff team put SCHS in a tough spot with a solid tackle on the kickoff, making them start at their own seven yard line. The SHS defense also looked different on their second possession, only allowing a single first down until Nick Sen sacked the QB, creating a 4th and long that led to a punt. Another successful balanced attack by the SCHS offense allowed them to drive down the field for another TD, making it 14-6 with 1:21 left in the 1st quarter.

Following a possession that ended in an SCHS interception, two roughing the passer penalties helped put SHS in position for a 27-yard TD pass to Rives. However, SCHS intercepted the ball on the two-point attempt, keeping the score 14-12 SCHS. SCHS’s offense continued having success with another TD on a 25-yard QB draw. With 7:32 left in the first half, SCHS went up 21-12. SHS offense showed some more success, including an impressive first down catch by Biehl, but the drive stalled after three incompletions leading to a punt. Unfortunately, SCHS finished the half strong,  taking advantage of another interception and a QB sack fumble to go into halftime with a 38-12 lead.

The second half started with a bang for SHS as Jake Weinhardt placed a wonderful onside kick that was recovered by a high GreeneWill McCarroll came out as the QB in the second half to help lead the offense. The drive led to a 38-yard field goal by Ricky Estrada to make it 38-15. The SHS defense had some impressive signs in the second half, including a fumble recovered and returned by Cooper Harrison, but the SCHS offense focused on the run and utilizing the clock.

The SHS offense also had some highlights in the second half, but no points followed. SCHS won the game, 52-15.

Congratulations to all the Stratford Spartan Football participants for a successful season!!!!
