Stratford 49 vs. Kempner 10

Like the last game, the Spartans came out to a quick lead, but this game would be different. A team effort on defense, ball movement, and scoring would create a run-away win for the Freshman Girls Team over of the Kempner Cougars at the Spartans' home gym.

Scoring started fast as Allie Moss connected twice early. The girls then put on lock-down defense on the perimeter led by Zoe Thompson and her pestering on-ball defense. The momentum got going as Zoe dove on the court to complete one of her many steals. If the Cougars did make it past Claire Kadane, Zoe, and Allie on the perimeter, there was a defensive wall waiting down low for them. Sophia Prejean blocked an early attempt on her way to 4 blocks in the game. Shelby Thibodeaux and Sophia controlled the paint, and both had multiple rebounds and steals. The first-quarter scoring rounded out with Shelby and Aniyah Cunningham each adding a basket, as well as Zoe and Sophia scoring a basket each and each dropping in a free throw as well.

The second quarter was more of the same, and the scoring really started to ramp up as the girls got the ball moving around, which created shots off rebounds and hustle. Claire and Sophia led the way with 4 points each. Madeline John buried a long jumper to add two more. Abigail Williams, Stella Weiss, and Phoebe Heidel all added a bucket and multiple rebounds. The girls finished off the half with 34 points and a dominating lead.

The third quarter was when Claire Kadane really started to heat up. The defensive steals and rebounding led to breakaway baskets and clean shots as Claire added 7 points in the quarter on her way to a team high 11 for the game. Not to be left out, Shelby and Allie added a basket apiece. Brooke Sponsel and Ginger Koss both had rebounds and cleaned up loose balls to help keep the defensive pressure on.

The game in hand, the last-quarter scoring was a bucket apiece from Stella and Brooke to close out the game.

This was a total team effort, and the Lady Spartans left happy with a dominating win.
