Stratford Varsity Football took on Jersey Village at Pridgeon Stadium for the last District game.

On the first play of the game, with no running backs for the SHS offense, Aaron DeLeon lofted one up for Luke Rives, who snagged it out of the air for a 30-yard gain. The drive continued until DeLeon found the end zone from 5 yards out on a designed QB draw, making it 8-0.

Blake Barry set the tone immediately and made an impact on all three of JVHS’s offensive plays, including a combined QB sack with Tiergan Burl on 3rd down. A punt was the result.

Braxton Wakefield only needed one hand to reel in a 30-yard pass to start the next SHS drive. However, a failed field goal on a 4th and one on the 20 yard line ended the drive.

Good team defense by SHS forced another three-and-out and a punt.

DeLeon was patient in the pocket on the next offensive play but ultimately scrambled and went 60 yards for the TD making it 15-0.

JVHS picked up their first 1st down on their third possession of the game and ended with a 35-yard TD pass on a go-route. This closed the gap to 15-7 toward the end of the first quarter.

SHS failed to get a first down on their next drive after not converting on a 4th-and-two pass attempt.

JVHS’s offense had some success, but Bo Harrison contributed to ending it on a tackle for a loss on a flare pass.

Two big flare passes to Wakefield and Rives were part of SHS’s next offensive success. The latter was a 40+ yard TD.

JVHS’s offense had some success, but Eli Aruor made it hard after a 10-yard QB sack presented a 3rd and long. Another deep ball on a go-route to the five yard line set up another JVHS TD a couple plays later. A failed two-point conversion kept the score 23-13 SHS with 55 seconds remaining in the half.

SHS went into their 2-minute offense and relied on Jack Stewart for some big receptions and runs after catches to get them within striking distance. The half ended on a 30+ yard pass to Jackson Miller, making it 30-13.

Demetris Cotten started the half off right with a great special teams play on the kickoff. Cotten fought off a block to make a tackle inside the 20 yard line.

JVHS’s offense came out with some success on six straight run plays. They then mixed in some pass plays to get close to the end zone. Carson Davidson on a tackle for loss put a dent on the drive after JVHS got to a 1st and goal from the nine yard line. A few plays later, the SHS defense and Christian Bell successfully defended a 4th and long pass to the end zone.

Your Spartan offense quickly had success on a long pass to Miller and a 12-yard TD run from Hunter Biehl, making it 37-13 with 4:45 left in the 3rd quarter.

SHS’s defense put a quick end to JVHS’s next drive with an interception by Cooper Harrison. The Spartans went back to the sure thing on the next drive, several deep post patterns to Stewart, including a TD.

Nate Grant would get SHS the ball back by picking up a fumble on the pursuant kick off.

Starting the 4th quarter with a short field, SHS’s offense found Wakefield as he followed the stellar blocks of his fellow receivers from 10 yards out to the end zone.

It only took one play for JVHS to get back on the scoreboard as they found a wide-open receiver over the top for a 70-yard score, making it 51-20 with 11:00 minutes remaining in the game.

Some new Spartan faces came out on the next drive for the offense. They focused on managing the clock with a power run formation. No score resulted, but time management worked as JVHS didn’t get the ball back until there was five minutes left in the game.

Rayce Young ended JVHS’s next offensive drive with SHS’s second interception of the game.

With four minutes left in the game, the SHS offense went back to work on successfully managing the game clock.

Your Spartan Football Team, won the game 51-27, finishing District in 2nd place behind Cy-Fair High School with a 6-1 district record.

The Spartans are playoff bound facing Westbury in the first round on Saturday, 11/11, at Tully Stadium.
