The game started off with defenses on both sides stepping up. Stratford went 3 and out on its first two drives of the game. Special teams had some highlights in the punting game early on. Jackson Fulweber boomed a 46-yard punt after Stratford’s first possession. On that punt play, Elliott Young assured the return would be minimal with a nice open field stick. Young also had an interception in the end zone to end Memorial’s first drive.

Memorial got things going in the second quarter. After starting in good field position at their own 48, the Mustangs quickly drove to the Stratford 15-yard line. After a holding call set them back, the Memorial run attack landed them in the end zone for the game’s first score. After a made PAT, Memorial led 7-0 with 6:25 left until half.

Stratford struck quickly. The Spartans started on their own 30 and Deamone Harris ripped off a 70-yard run to pay dirt. The Spartans missed the 2-point conversion and were down 7-6.

But Memorial had an immediate answer. The Mustangs started their next drive on their own 22-yard line and struck with a 50-yard slant pass completion. A few plays later, the Spartan defense had come up big with a forced fumble. Reayon Harris recovered the fumble at the Stratford 7-yard line. But the Spartans gave it right back with a fumble of their own at the Stratford 10-yard line. Memorial needed just one play to run it in for their second touchdown. After PAT, Memorial led 14-6.

Despite a Reayon Harris 14-yard run on the next drive, the Spartan offense quickly hit fourth down and were forced to punt. The teams traded possessions to end the half. Callan Kirk anchored the Stratford defense with two QB pressures to force a Memorial punt. The teams went to halftime with Memorial leading 14-6.

Memorial got the ball to start the third quarter and converted on a 4th and 3 to keep the drive alive. The Mustangs capped the drive with a 15-yard TD run followed by a successful PAT to extend the lead to 21-6.

After an excellent 45-yard kick return by Isaac Young, Stratford was in good position at the Memorial 45-yard line. Solid runs by Deamone Harris were enabled by some good blocking up front and Stratford was driving. A roughing the passer penalty moved the Spartans to the Memorial 12-yard line. Stratford then struck for their second score when John Briggs connected with Ryan White for a 12-yard TD completion. The two-point conversion was missed, but the Spartans were within striking distance 21-12.

Memorial started their next drive from their own 32 and went into hurry-up offense. The Mustangs ground out a tough drive on the ground and scored again, and led 28-12 after made PAT. Stratford went 3 and out on their next drive and turned the ball over on downs in their own territory. Memorial ran out the clock and went away with a 28-12 victory.
