JV Volleyball Successful Against Cy Ridge and Rival Memorial

JV opened up the week traveling to take on the Rams of Cy Ridge.

Scores by Sydney PeraLauren Dunwoody, and Elizabeth Swoboda had the Rams on the ropes early. A Caroline White ace had Cy Ridge burning an early timeout at 9-3. More scores by WhitePeraBrooke McAfee, and Logan Sykes broke things open at 17-5. Jenna Rae James and Milena Miladinovic added to the rout, while stingy defense by Skyes and Maddy Hoang kept the Rams off the board for most of the set. Miladinovic finished off the set at 25-11 on a pair of quick kills.

Stratford started off even hotter the second set. Unanswered scores by Lauren DunwoodyJenna Rae James, and Tess Stephenson had Cy Ridge burning through timeouts looking for a way to stem the tide. A Stephenson booming put-back made it 13-1 at the second Ram timeout. DunwoodySydney PeraMilena Miladinovic, and Logan Sykes extended the lead out of reach, while blanketing defense by SykesMaddy Hoang, and Jocelyn Mucino kept the Rams from scoring, and craft sets by Brooke McAfee and Caroline White kept Spartan hitters fed. A Dunwoody power-slam closed the match out at 25-9.

vs. Memorial

Next up was the match any Spartan team marks on the calendar, a trip to Memorial. JV won a 3-set thriller at home early in the season against the Mustangs, and was looking to cement the season sweep.

Memorial opened up scoring the first two points, and looked to extend the momentum until a Tess Stephenson kill shot echoed through the gym. A pair of Jenna Rae James aces opened a lead, and Stephenson hammered home another score to the murmurs of the Mustang faithful. A booming hit by Lauren Dunwoody, table set by Brooke McAfee’s well-placed assist, followed by a sharp put-back by Elizabeth Swoboda, lifted JV to a 7-4 lead. Memorial battled back to take a 8-12 lead going into a Spartan timeout. Coming out of the break, Stratford sprinted to a 14-13 lead, and eventually stretched a small lead on a McAfee ace and kills by Dunwoody and Stephenson. A well-placed Sydney Pera strike forced the Mustangs to call a timeout at 20-16. The Spartans maintained the lead thanks to Jocelyn Mucino and Logan Sykes holding Mustang scorers at bay. Elizabeth Swoboda finished the set off at 25-17.

Jenna Rae JamesTess Stephenson, and Lauren Dunwoody made certain the Spartans opened up a 7-3 second-set lead. Caroline White entered and had the hitters ready to swing, dishing up sets to Jenna Rae James and Tess Stephenson, while Logan Sykes and Maddy Hoang peppered the Mustangs with aces. Coming out of a Mustang timeout at 15-6, Stratford kept up the pressure with tip scores by Stephenson and Skyeswhile Spartan defense led by Kristabella Van Gaston kept Mustang shots from falling. A Dunwoody hard hit and a pair of Sydney Pera kills had Stratford winning the match at 25-13.

JV (27-5, 12-1 in District) caps off a great season at home Tuesday against Jersey Village at 4:30 pm. Come out and support these young women as they seek to finish off a year of great volleyball with a victory.
