The JV White Team had a tough matchup at home vs. the Cy Falls Eagles. Stratford got off to a great start as Brody Bellamy executed a perfect short kickoff that Graham Wetherell recovered to open the game, but the offense couldn’t take advantage and turned the ball over on downs. Cy Falls used their big size advantage to drive down the field with their rushing attack, but their drive was halted in the red zone when Jack McAfee intercepted an errant pass to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard. The Cy Falls defense was impressive and made things difficult for the Stratford offense all game, and the Spartans found themselves down 12-0 at halftime.

The second half featured more of the same as the offense mustered only a few first downs behind some tough rushing from RB Dylan Faulkner, and scrambling from QB Gavin GuzmanWill Tacker added a nice 40-yd kickoff return in the third quarter, and wide receivers Jaelaun Rosser and Jack Sullivan moved the chains for a couple of nice receptions, but Cy Falls would keep them out of the end zone in the third quarter.

Stratford’s defense stepped up in the fourth quarter as junior DE Juwann Taylor intercepted a short pass deep in Eagles’ territory and nearly returned it for a score to give the Spartans some life. QB Gavin Guzman would capitalize a few plays later with a short rushing TD to get the Spartans on the scoreboard, trailing 18-6.

Cy Falls chewed up some clock on their next drive, but the Stratford defense got a big stop on fourth down to give the offense one last chance. Unfortunately, the Spartans couldn’t take advantage as they were backed up near their goal line, and Cy Falls would record a safety to seal the game, 20-6.

JV White fell to 4-4 (0-1 District) and will be back in action next Thursday for a big game at rival Memorial HS.
