The Spartans’ JV White Team packed an extra lunch for their long road trip to Kingwood Park HS. This proved to be a physical matchup, and Stratford was up for the challenge. The defensive front allowed some rushing yards but held up strong on several critical third and fourth downs to end the Panthers’ scoring hopes. The effort on defense was led by Juwann Taylor, Matthew Bednar, Lucas Thibodeauxand Graham Wetherell, who all put consistent pressure on the QB and had several tackles for loss.

The Spartan offense found rushing yards tough to come by as QB Gavin Guzman had to scramble to extend plays and gain short yardage. Sophomores Dylan Faulkner ran well between the tackles, and AJ West found success on the edge with several jet sweeps. Guzman found WR Jaelaun Rosser in the end zone right before half for a 10-yard TD reception to take a 7-0 lead.

The offense kept the momentum in the second half as they found a rhythm in the passing game. Guzman connected several times with WR Jack Sullivan for nice gains. Sullivan lowered his shoulder and ran over a defensive back instead of running out of bounds to give the Spartans a big first-down conversion. Guzman later scored on a short rushing TD to cap off the drive and give Stratford the 14-0 lead. The Spartans would add another late TD to complete the 21-0 road victory.

The JV White team improved to 4-3 (0-1 in district) and will play Cy Falls at home this Thursday.
