After a slow start, Stratford Freshman Green Team asserts itself and has a strong showing, sparked by five interceptions on the night.

Stratford had a lethargic start to the game but a Reayon Harris interception sparked the Spartans late in the first quarter. A  Harris return had the Spartans positioned at the Spring Woods 20 yard line. A few plays later, Elliott Young turned a short reception in the flat into a 10 yard touchdown. John Briggs followed with a 2 yard scamper for a 2 point conversion and Stratford was on the board 8-0 with 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Stratford’s defense then stepped up and stuffed Spring Woods on their next drive after a couple of first downs, keyed by a Jackson Fulweber tackle for loss that forced Spring Woods to turn the ball over on downs. The Spartans started at their own 35 and struck fast. Young got things started with a 13 yard screen. Daemon Harris then ripped off a 52 yard run for Stratford’s second score. Jayden Matthews then took a pass from Briggs to complete the 2 point conversion. Stratford was starting to roll 16-0.

Stratford’s defense again stepped up on Spring Woods next drive. Ryan White had a nice stick in the middle on a blitz, and Luke Connally had a couple of nice open-field tackles. Elliott Young also had a nice pass breakup and Cannon Thompson deflected a pass to force a turnover on downs once again. Stratford took over on their own 35 and quickly struck pay dirt on runs by Daemon Harris of 10, 22, and 33 yards for a touchdown. After a missed 2-point conversion, the Spartans were up 22-0.

The first half ended with Reayon Harris making his second interception of the game with a 40 yard return to the Spring Woods 34. Two plays later, Stratford could not convert and the teams headed to halftime.

Reayon Harris opened up the second half with a 40 yard kickoff return to the Spring Woods 30 yard line, and the Spartans were in business. Stratford found the end zone after positive gains from Daemon Harris, White, and Briggs. White made a tough catch for the 2-point conversion to put Stratford up 30-0 and there was no looking back.

Spartan special teams continued to shine on the ensuing kickoff when Eduardo Torres made a great tackle on the kickoff. The defense again stepped up, led by nice plays by Westy Bennett and Callan Kirk. Daemon Harris got into the act on defense with a QB sack. After a Spring Woods punt, Stratford offense sputtered and gave the ball right back to Spring Woods.

Stratford defense asserted itself again with nice plays from Connally and Thompson. Young then had Stratford’s 3rd interception of the game with a 50 yard return to the Spring Woods 15 yard line. Reayon Harris then made a 15 yard touchdown reception, followed by a run for the 2-point conversion. Stratford had a commanding 38-0 lead.

On Spring Woods' next drive, Young again made an interception. Stratford turned it over on downs but not until Finn Maguire and Sam Fields got into the act with runs on offense. Spring Woods took possession but the Spartans quickly got it back with their 5th interception of the game by Kamari Williams to end the game.
