Your Stratford Spartans faced Northbrook at Tully Stadium on Friday, 10/6.

SHS brought out the power I offensive formation for the first time this season. This formation put the offensive line in the driver's seat. The offensive line of Armando Castro, Clayton Nonhof, Bennett Fry, Ryan Griggs, and Zachary Prudhomme led the team down the field on run plays by several Spartan players. The drive concluded with a 15-yard TD pass to Braxton Wakefield from Aaron DeLeon.

It was the SHS defensive’s turn to impress. A penalty gave NHS a 1st down. However, SHS’s swarming defense didn’t allow any more and forced a punt. The first quarter ended, 7-0 SHS.

With the ball again, SHS once again focused on the run game. However, a 10-yard pass to Luke Rives finished the drive in the end zone, making it 14-0.

Christian Bell quickly ended NHS’s next offensive drive with an interception on NHS’s first pass attempt of the game. Bell returned it to the three yard line for an easy running score on the next play by DeLeon.

Once again, the SHS defense gave up nothing. On this SHS defensive possession Nate Grant and Eli Aruor impressed with a tackle for a big loss. DeLeon took the ball for a 50-yard TD on the first play of the next offensive possession, making it 28-0 with 8:07 left in the half. Another short possession due to the strong SHS defense resulted in a three and out by NHS. After a few short run attempts the SHS offense was stopped for the first time. A SHS punt gave NHS the ball back.

The highlight of the next short NHS offensive drive was Aruor and Carson Davidson combining for a sack fumble.

SHS threw the ball around a bit on their final offensive drive of the half. Hunter Biehl had a nice contributing reception and Anderson Dinh topped it off with a 50+ yard TD. Your SHS Spartans led 35-0 at halftime.

Your Spartans continued to control the game in the second half with slow methodical offensive drives and tough defense. SHS finished with a 49-0 victory.

2nd half highlights:

  • Fumble recovery on a kickoff from Cullen Sands
  • 10-yard TD run from James Millan
  • 70-yard TD reception from Will McCarroll to Dinh on a screen pass

QB sack by Sean Madden

Next up, SHS takes on Spring Woods at Tully Stadium on Thursday, 10/12.
