The JV White Team faced a tough opponent as they hosted the Eagles from Atascocita HS last Thursday. This turned into a defensive battle as both teams struggled to move the ball. The Spartans' defensive line was in the backfield all night, led by junior DE Juwann Taylor, who had several tackles for loss. Sophomore cornerbacks Will Tacker and Jack McAfee also shut down the passing game, each coming up with big interceptions in the first half.

Special teams would prove to be the difference in the second half, as sophomore long snapper Eli Manuel hustled downfield to recover a fumbled punt and give the Spartans excellent field position. QB Gavin Guzman would find WR Jaelaun Rosser in the end zone to give Stratford a 7-0 lead. The defense would force another stop to give the ball back to the offense. Guzman would find WR Jack Sullivan on a slant route to convert a critical fourth down and extend the drive late in the fourth quarter. Shortly after, the Eagles would respond with an interception return for a touchdown to pull within 7-6. Atascocita chose to go for the 2-point conversion to take the lead, but their effort was stopped in the backfield and the Spartans would go on to win 7-6.

The JV White Team improved to 3-3 (0-1 in District) and will take on Kingwood Park HS next week.
