The JV Green squad hit the road for another District game at Cy Creek. On the Spartans' opening drive, QB Luke Tamez found WR Xavier Campbell wide open on a skinny post-route for a 35-yard touchdown pass to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead. The defense forced a punt, and the Spartans took advantage and increased their lead to 14-0 when Tamez found RB Corbin Morris on a swing pass in the red zone for another score.

Cy Creek would answer after struggling to find much positive yardage; their speedy tailback bounced outside and ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run to cut the Spartan lead to 14-6. That’s as close as the Cougars would get as the Spartans would dominate the rest of this game. Junior WR Luke Fields had an impressive game with several catches and hauled in a 50-yard TD pass from Luke Tamez on the next drive. The offensive line (Kenny White, Caleb Boerm, Noah Nunez, Wade Lairdand Eli Manuel) did their job and held up well in pass protection all night.

Cy Creek’s offense would move backwards the rest of the half. Junior defensive ends Sam Ezezue and Juwann Taylor applied pressure from the edge to create sacks, and sophomore defensive tackles Bradley Olivera and Jackson Holz racked up several tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Holz also recovered a fumble and took it to the house for a 45-yard touchdown and a 28-6 Spartan lead.

The Spartans would add another score before half when Luke Tamez connected with RB Davis Kendall in the flat, and Kendall sprinted down the sideline, breaking ankles for a 25-yard score. The defense would take care of the rest with solid linebacker play from sophomores Jax Blundell and Dylan Ward and physical open-field tackling from junior CB Demetris Cotton and sophomore safety Cody Hanlen.

Stratford would add another late rushing touchdown from RB Corbin Morris to wrap up the 41-12 victory. This was a complete team win, including special teams led by sophomore kicker Brody Bellamy. Gutsy performances by junior CB Ethan McKnightwho was not 100% healthy, and Bradley Olivera, who played both ways,  helping a shorthanded offensive line, also made a big impact in their first District win. They’ll look to continue their winning streak next Thursday at home vs. Northbrook.
