This week the offense again asserted itself on the ground and it began with the first drive. Stratford had a strong opening drive keyed by a 25-yard Daemone Harris run. The Spartans appeared to be in business until a fumble at the Cy Creek 12 yard line halted the drive. The defense was also stout to open the game and held Cy Creek to 3 and out on their first drive. Stratford got the ball back with good field position but went 3 and out themselves and had to punt. A solid Jackson Fulweber punt pinned Cy Creek deep at their own 6 yard line.

Cy Creek sustained a strong drive on their second possession. Despite nice tackles on the drive by Westy BennettReayon Harris, and Damien Torres, Cy Creek drove deep into Stratford territory. More nice defensive plays came from Cannon Thompson (QB pressure) and Elliott Young (pass defended in end zone). But Cy Creek ended up in the end zone. After a missed 2-point try, Cy Creek had the lead 6-0 in the second quarter.

Stratford’s next drive was productive with more good gains on the ground. Harris had runs of 6, 16, and 33 yards. John Briggs had a nice scramble for 14 yards to cap the drive with a touchdown. PAT was good from Ryan White, and the Spartans had the lead 7-6. But Cy Creek quickly answered on their next drive and went 49 yards for a score. Elliott made another nice play in the end zone, intercepting the 2-point try, and Cy Creek was up 12-7.

Stratford started their last drive of the half in good field position, keyed by a nice 25-yard kick return by Jayden Matthews. The Stratford line again looked good, opening up holes for Harris, and Stratford drove to Cy Creek’s 24 yard line. The Spartans' drive stalled with 20 seconds to go in the half and turned over on downs. On Cy Creek’s play to end the half, Torres again made sure they weren’t going anywhere with a tackle for loss, and the half ended.

Elliott was again there for the Spartans, making a nice tackle on the opening kick-off at the Cy Creek 23 yard line. Stratford’s defense held strong, keyed by QB pressures from Jefferson Bonilla and Fulweber. Stratford was in business after stuffing Cy Creek on 4th and 1 on their own 33. Unfortunately, the offense went backward with penalties and a QB sack, and the Spartans had to punt. But a muffed return was recovered by Harris at the Cy Creek 26, and the Spartans were again given a golden opportunity. This time the Spartans capitalized and drove the ball to the end zone for a TD, keyed by runs from Harris and a 10-yard reception from Ben Roberts. PAT was good, and Stratford had the lead 14-12.

Cy Creek’s next drive was productive. After nice tackles by Kamari Williams and Fulweber and a QB pressure from Callan Kirk, Cy Creek was threatening. Young again had a nice pass breakup in the end zone and on the next play the secondary again had their hands on the ball, but the ball was tipped to a Cy Creek receiver who scored on a 25-yard reception. After another failed 2-point conversion, Cy Creek regained the lead 18-14.

The teams traded unproductive possessions the rest of the game. Spartan highlights included an interception by Williams and a 25-yard kick return from Young. Cy Creek held on to win 18-14.
