The Freshman White Team (3-1, 1-0) traveled on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Cy Fair Bobcats to start District play.

The Spartans kicked off to Cy Fair after winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half. After several nice plays resulting in a Bobcat first down, the Spartan defense came alive. Joey Mundwiller (#34) tracked down a receiver on a great play to eliminate a potential score. Evan Candler (#24) ran stride-for-stride on the next pass attempt that fell to the ground incomplete. After an ineligible man downfield penalty on Cy Fair, Nick Riopelle (#49) and Wyatt Throckmorton (#85) teamed up to stop a run, followed by a nice tackle on the running back by Mohammad Diaa (#64). The 3rd down play resulted in a sack of the quarterback by Riopelle (#49), forcing a punt by the Bobcats.

The Spartans started their opening drive at the 26 yard line. Using a combination of zone reads and design QB keepers, Andy Navarro (#3) and John Hearne (#15) along with a strong performance from the offensive line (Turner (#74), Valdez (#71), Hibbetts (#54), Charanza (#70) and Torres (#72)) that dominated the line of scrimmage, easily moved the ball downfield. On the final play of the first quarter, Hearne (#15) set up the offense at the Bobcat 3 yard line after a tough run.

To begin the 2nd quarter, Navarro (#3) took the snap and sprinted untouched into the end zone, resulting in the first score of the game. Navarro (#3) followed up by scoring the two-point conversion on another keeper just inside the far pilon. With 9:54 remaining in the half, the Spartans led 8-0. The ensuing kickoff added some drama when Navarro (#3) had to make a touchdown-saving tackle. A couple of nice tackles by Jeferson Bonilla (#39) and Brayden Botary (#33) and a tackle for loss by Throckmorton (#85) had the Spartan defense in great position. The Bobcats next attempted a pass over the middle that resulted in an interception by Mundwiller (#34). Using a combination of runs by Navarro (#3) and Hearne (#15) and a couple of nice passes to Mundwiller (#34), the offense was on the move again. However, with 46 seconds remaining in the half, Stratford was facing a critical 4th and 2. Navarro (#3) and team converted the 4th down when they drew the defenders across the line of scrimmage for an automatic first down. The Spartans took full advantage of the mistake and scored again when Navarro (#3) took the ball across the goal line. The following two-point try was successful when Navarro (#3) found Hearne (#15) on a well-executed throwback pass. The Bobcat offense received the kick right before half but was unable to do anything when Jackson Berg (#88) sacked the QB on the last play of the half. The Spartans entered halftime up 16-0.

Mundwiller (#34) received the second half kick and set up the Spartan offense with great field position after returning it to midfield. A couple of nice passes to Hearne (#15) and Teagan Tedrow (#20) were not enough to overcome a Spartan penalty. The drive resulted in a turnover on downs back to Cy Fair when Navarro (#3) and Jamiel Wright (#83) were unable to connect on a long 4th-down pass attempt. The Bobcat offense showed some life using a few nice runs and a screen pass to move down to the Spartan 18 yard line. A great tackle by Noel Rodriguez (#40) and subsequent stop on a QB keeper up the middle resulted in a 4th and 5 to end a quick 3rd quarter.

The defense handled their business on the 4th-down play and provided possession back to the Spartan offense. Hearne (#15) took several hand-offs for strong runs and a flare pass to the flat to help move the ball to the 41 yard line. Navarro (#3) then found a streaking Wright (#83) down the sideline for a long touchdown. Navarro’s (#3) keeper on the try-after was successful putting Stratford ahead 24-0. Cy Fair was unable to move the ball again when the Spartan defense forced a 4th down after Caden Couch (#31) made a nice tackle. Amoree Johnson (#28) entered the game as the Spartan QB and quickly had a nice pass to Tedrow (#20). A nice run by Hearne (#15) was not enough, and the drive ended with a turnover on downs back to the Bobcats. The Bobcats quickly moved the ball down the field and with 26 seconds remaining to put up their first points of the game. The two-point try failed and nothing further resulted from an onside-kick attempt that was secured by the Spartans. Johnson (#28) ended the game with a kneel-down resulting in a dominant victory by the Spartans, 24-6.
