In their first quarter against Memorial, the JV Girls looked to have the key to the game – passes connecting, turnovers forced. Confident goals from freshmen Luisa Becerra and Jill Hyland and heads-up play by Abby Middlebrooks and Audrey Bown closed the first 6:00 down by just one, 2-3.

Despite heads-up play and tough defense, the score got a bit lopsided in the second, and the Spartans couldn’t recover. There was no quit in the JV girls though: sophomore LC Nall led the team as they repeatedly ran the clock with feisty defense and freshmen Piper BarrowHylandBecerra, and Bown consistently forced turnovers. With impressive passing around the horn, the final goal came from Becerra on a precise pass from freshman Emily Pace. Sophomore goalie Bella Smith was aggressive and quick in the cage with 10 saves, including a buzzer-beating 5-meter penalty shot block in the third and an impressive one-on-one save in the fourth.
