Varsity vs. Cypress Creek

Stratford Varsity Tennis hosted Cypress Creek High School on Tuesday afternoon and notched a convincing district win (19-0) over the Cougars from CFISD. Led by Senior Team Captains, Nico Boza and Renee Lee, the Spartan squad displayed the depth and focus it takes to win all nineteen matches.

Dual meets starts with seven doubles matches, and the Spartans delivered on all!

Freshman Liam Collins and Team Captain Nico Boza dropped just a single game en route to a two-set Line 1 doubles win, while sophomore Erin Bui and Team Captain Renee Lee one-upped the boys by dropping no games in their two-set Line 1 win. Spartan focus didn’t waver as Stratford extended the doubles streak down the lines.

  • Junior Alice Jiang and freshman Brianna Johnson teamed up for the Line 2 win.
  • Brothers Preston and Kyle Chen kept it in the family for another Line 2 win.
  • Juniors Ruthie Egger and June Liam got in on the action with a Line 3 win.
  • Junior Luka Silbernagel and sophomore Christian Nafziger won Line 3.
  • Juniors Emerson Hamlin and Hailey Schifano cleaned it up in mixed doubles for the win.

All the hard summer practices in 100-degree weather paid off as Spartan Tennis got winning performances on all singles lines. Ana Salmain and Sophia Kang pulled out wins for Sparty, while special recognition goes out to senior Katherine Perkins, who notched her first Varsity singles win and sophomore Caroline Heinecke, who pulled out a tough three-set match to get her first Varsity singles win.

Sportsmanship is as important as winning, and it must be noted that the Cy Creek coach mentioned how respectful all the Spartan players were toward their Cy Creek Varsity team. Great job showing class and sportsmanship. The Spartans expect to continue both in upcoming matches against Northbrook, Spring Woods, and Cy Ridge as Coach Bianchi prepares the team for the September 26th showdown against Memorial.

Freshman vs. Memorial

Great job, freshmen!

Coming away with seven match wins is awesome against a very strong Memorial team!
