After starting the first three weeks of the cross country season with a relay, a 4K race, and a 2-mile race, the Spartan Varsity teams and JV boys ran their first 5K of the season on Saturday at the Seven Lakes Showcase Invitational. With most of the top runners and teams from Region 3-6A in attendance, it was an opportunity for the Spartans to see how they stack up early in the season.

VARSITY BOYS

There were 19 teams competing on Saturday, and our Varsity boys finished fourth place in team points. Katy Tompkins, ranked #4 in the current Texas 6A coaches' poll, won the championship in dominant fashion, followed by Strake Jesuit, Katy Seven Lakes, and Stratford.

In the individual standings, Junior Ben Pearce had another outstanding race, running a blistering time of 15:46 and finishing fourth against a loaded field of competitors. The three guys who finished ahead of him are all seniors and among the top runners in Houston.

Senior Jona Morford is having a breakout cross-country season and continues to post impressive results. His personal best (PB) time of 16:11 on Saturday placed him 12th in the standings and worthy of another top-20 medal.
