The Spartan Sophomore Team traveled to Jersey Village and closed out their season strong with two victories. They would notch another no-hitter in the first game behind strong pitching from starter Luke Tamez (3 IP, 0 R, 3 K’s) and closer Cole Youngblood (2 IP, 0 R, 2 K’s). Nick Gioco got the offense started with an RBI-triple in the first inning. Cole Youngblood (2-3, triple), Jack McAfee (2-2, 2 RBI’s), Anthony Castillo (1-2, RBI), and Jack Sullivan (1-4, double, RBI) would also join in the hit parade as the Spartans topped the Falcons 7-0.

The second game was much more competitive and would go the distance with Jersey Village’s ace pitching a complete game (7 IP, 11 K’s, and a successful hidden ball trick), but the Spartans were up for the challenge with strong pitching of their own from William Coates (3 IP, 0 ER, 4 K’s), Carsten Vasut (2 IP, 4 K’s), and Brandon Phillips (1 IP, 3 K’s). Down 2-1 in the top of the 7th, the Spartans would scratch across the tying and winning runs behind gritty at-bats from Levi Lease and Lucas Dominguez to put the Spartans on top. Brandon “Silky P” Phillips would come in to close the game and struck out the side to silence the Falcon faithful. It was a total team effort on offense with eight different Spartans chiming in with hits,  including Cody HanlenDylan WardMatthew DeJagerJax Blundell, and Stephen Hoover.

The Stratford Sophomore Team would finish the season 11-6-2 overall (8-3-1 in District - 3rd place) with several close losses that they’d like to have back, but the future is bright with this young and talented team!
