Softball Ends Post Season With Tough Losses to Highly Ranked Houston Heights Team

The Spartans wrapped up their post season with back-to-back losses to Houston Heights, a team that is expected to go far in the 6A playoffs, having been ranked as high as #7 in the state.

vs. Heights- (Loss 2-12)

Stratford fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 2-12 loss to Heights Varsity Bulldogs on Friday night. Stratford struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Heights, giving up 12 runs on 10 hits. Stratford racked up 4 hits on the night with Marina Taveras going 2 for 3 at the plate, Kirby Crow singling on a bunt,  and Allison Hibbetts hitting a solo home run in the 3rd inning. Hayden Houser took the loss for the Spartans, throwing 4 innings.

Offensive Highlights (4 Hits total):

Singles: Taveras, Crow

Doubles: Taveras

Home Runs: Hibbetts

Defensive Highlights:

Houser: 4IP, 10H, 12R, 9ER, 2BB

 

vs. Heights - (Loss 3-14)

The Stratford Spartans lost their second playoff game to Houston Heights on Saturday. Heights again racked up the hits, 13 compared to Stratford’s 3. The Heights ran away with it in the third inning, scoring 8 runs. Kirby Crow, Carolyn Briggs, and Gwyn Katterhenry collected singles for the Spartans. Katterhenry took the loss for the Spartans, throwing 4 innings, with Hayden Houser throwing the final 2 innings.

Singles: Katterhenry, Crow, Briggs

Defensive Highlights:

Katterhenry: 4IP, 5H, 10R, 3ER, 4BB, 3K

Houser: 2IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 0BB, 1K
