Softball Team is Playoff Bound!

The Spartans hosted a successful SBMSA Softball Night at the Memorial game on Tuesday, with over 60 future Spartans and future Mustangs showing up to take the field during opening ceremonies. The future of Spartan Softball is BRIGHT!

vs. Memorial - (Loss 1-5)

Stratford suffered a heartbreaking loss against Memorial last Tuesday night at home. The game was scoreless until the third inning, when both teams put up 1 run each. The game remained tied at 1-1 through a full 7 innings, forcing overtime play. The Mustangs took advantage of the situation and scored 4 runs on 2 walks and 4 back-to-back hits. Marina Taveras had an outstanding night at the plate, going 4 for 4. The Mustangs racked up 8 hits to Stratford’s 7. The Spartans were unable to put those hits together in any more than the third inning. Stratford’s defense was solid, with some outstanding catches in the outfield by Isabela SanchezKaitlyn McGuireand Kirby CrowHayden Houser started the game for the Spartans going 6 2/3 innings. Gwyn Katterhenry took the loss for the Spartans, throwing 1 1/3 innings in the loss.

vs. Jersey Village - (Win 7-6)

The Stratford Spartans won a close one over Jersey Village on Friday. Going into this game, Jersey Village had only two losses to Cy Fair in District and had just come off an 11-1 win over Memorial. The Spartans got on the board in the first inning when Adrianna Estrada singled to drive in Marina Taveras, who led the game off with a single on the first pitch of the game. Jersey Village came back to tie the game at 1 in the third inning, Stratford followed up in the 4th inning with one run put together by three consecutive hits by Allison HibbettsIsabela Sanchez, and Gwyn Katterhenry. The Spartans added another 4 runs in the 6th inning when Hibbetts led off with a single,  Sanchez bunted, Katterhenry singled, Hayden Houser doubled, and Kaitlyn McGuire singled. JV came and answered back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Spartans again got on the board with a 1-run insurance policy with a triple by Carolyn Briggs and a sacrifice fly by Hibbetts. This proved to be a much-needed run, as JV made a last-ditch effort putting up 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th but were unable to defeat the Spartans! Gwyn Katterhenry got the win for the Spartans, throwing 5 2/3 innings, with Houser earning the save by recording the final 4 outs of the game. A big boost for our Spartans as they head to playoffs next week.

The Lady Spartans are PLAYOFF Bound this week, taking on the Heights Bulldogs, game date and time is TBD and will be communicated early this week.
