The rain cleared in time for the Spartans to lock up with the Cy Ridge Rams last Wednesday, but the Rams probably wished these games were rained out. Cy Ridge would only put two balls in play the entire night as the Stratford sophomore team dominated once again and have now pitched 5 no-hitters in their last 6 games. The first game was powered on offense by Anthony Castillo (2-2, triple, 2 RBI’s), Zach Christie (1-3, double), Jackson Holz (2-2, RBI), and Jax Blundell (1-3, RBI). William Coates (1 IP, 2 K’s), and Nick Gioco (1 IP, 3 K’s) would quiet the Cy Ridge bats, and Drew Emery (1 IP, 2 K’s) would return to the mound after a long stint on the injured list to close the game out in dominant fashion. Spartans win 12-0.

The second game featured more of the same as the Spartans would lean on strong pitching performances from Cole Youngblood (2 IP, 6 K’s), Levi Lease (1 IP, 3 K’s), and Cody Hanlen (1 IP, 3 K’s) to seal the victory. Speedsters Carsten Vasut (2-3, 2 RBI’s) and Jack Sullivan (2-2, 3 RBI’s) led the offense, with Stephen HooverNick Gioco, and Brandon Phillips also adding hits as the Spartans would win 16-0. The Asian BBQ served in the stands from Brisket and Rice may have been the highlight of the night - thanks to Emery and Blundell families!

The sophomore team improved to 9-3-2 (6-1-1 in district) and will finally get a home game next week as the competition steps up vs. rival Memorial HS. Come out to the Backyard on Wednesday night (Apr 19) to support the Spartans!
