Week #2 of District play found the Spartans matched up against a talented Cy Creek squad. Needing to bounce back, the boys rode strong pitching and timely hitting to back-to-back victories over the Cougars and improve their record to 2-2 (13-6 overall).

Highlights:

Spartans 5 - Cougars 0

On the road to begin the series, Paxton Terveen was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game two-hit shutout and striking out twelve Cougars along the way. A five-hit performance provided the offense for the visitors, led by Terveen, who contributed his fourth homerun on the season. John White, Brecken Menuet, Braxton Wakefield, and Luke Barre also contributed a hit apiece to round out the attack. Everyone contributed to a sound defensive performance as the Spartans recorded their first District win of the season.

The Spartans warmed up with Grant Kendall (Rummel Creek Elementary) before he threw out the first pitch against Cy Creek.

Excited to get a winning streak started, the Spartans returned to The Backyard on Friday. Thomas Cloud made his second start of the season one to remember, earning the W with a six-inning outing, giving up a single run while striking out seven Cougars. Barre cleaned up with a scoreless outing in relief to earn the save. The offense did enough to secure the victory. Leading the way with a two-hit game were Terveen and Wakefield. White, Caden Baker, and Alex Skoutelakis each contributed a hit apiece. The hard-fought victories brought the Spartans to 2-2 in the young District campaign.

Next up: Varsity plays the Northbrook Raiders at The Backyard on Tuesday (3/28), and then they are at Northbrook on Friday (3/31).
