The Varsity Baseball Team kicked off their District campaign against a veteran Cy Fair Bobcats Team. After two hard-fought games, the Spartans find themselves at 0-2 and looking forward to their upcoming series against the Cy Creek Cougars ready to get in the win column.

Highlights:

Spartans 1 - Bobcats 3

A large Spring Break home crowd greeted the Spartans for their District opener last Tuesday. Paxton Terveen took the mound and went a strong six innings (1ER/8K), and then turned it over to Christian Merchan for the final inning. The offense mustered only five hits and could never find its stride against the Bobcats. Led by Brecken Menuet with two hits, John White, Alex Skoutelakis, and Terveen also contributed a hit apiece. Only able to push across one run, the Spartans fell to 0-1 in District play.

Spartans 8 - Bobcats 14

Excited to get back on the field, the team scored in its first at-bat to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bobcats answered with six runs of their own to put the Spartans in a hole, but they would answer with some fireworks of their own. A Terveen grand slam homerun tied the game 6-6 giving the Spartans new life. In the end, the Bobcats scored eight of the final ten runs to earn the victory. Caden Baker, Terveen, and Skoutelakis provided the punch with two hits each. Braxton Wakefield and Luke Rives added a hit apiece to account for the offense. Thomas Cloud started and gave way to Tucker Copeland, who led the way on the mound going three scoreless innings. Matthew McDuffie, Maddox Garnero, Harris Timmreck, and Cade Hanlen combined to finish the game.

Next up: The Varsity squad heads to Cy Creek for their next game on Tuesday before returning to The Backyard for the second match-up with the Cougars on Friday at 7:00 pm.
