Dear Stratford Spartan Community,

I am excited to share that the beginning of the season has been one of tremendous growth for our Sophomore Spartans, who have shown wonderful intention and coachability in their quest to develop as baseball players and members of the Stratford community. As their coach, I am proud of the way they have shown that they are willing to work as a team to do the little things correctly that, together, add up to represent our school with excellence both on and off the field.

Our scrimmage season got off to a tough start, with a loss to an impressive Grand Oaks club, but the boys bounced back with back-to-back impressive wins, including a no-hit performance against the Fort Bend Travis Tigers on Friday, February 17th.

The regular season for the Sophomores began with a loss to a very good Bridgeland Bears squad at the Backyard, which saw the team commit several errors in spite of a valiant effort to remain in the game. After losing to the Bears, our boys traveled to Benjamin Davis High School, where they defeated the Falcons 10-0 in a game in which the Spartan pitching again limited the opposing offense well, allowing only one hit.

The offensive side of the game has gone well for the boys, too; they are averaging a little over 6 runs per game and have shown the ability to run the bases well, bunt, steal, and hit for average and power. They are also doing a good job learning the system of signs we use to communicate between the basepaths.

Coming up, the team will compete in their first tournament of the year during the weekend of March 2nd through the 4th, with two games on Thursday, one on Friday, and one on Saturday. The competition for this tournament will put all of the team’s developing skills and knowledge to the test, but I am confident that the boys will show up ready to represent Stratford with pride and excellence.

We are thankful for and look forward to your continued support.

Go Spartans!
