JV Girls Soccer Remains Undefeated Shutting Out Both Cy Creek and Northbrook

vs. Cy Creek HS - 2/21

Wow! An extremely windy Tuesday night made for an interesting game against Cy Creek High School, but it did not keep the SHS JV girls from winning another shut-out! At 24 minutes on the clock, Meagan Hallmark passed the ball to Nicole Abbey, who put the first score on the board: SHS 1 - CCHS 0. SHS Goalie Jenna Dunavin made a nice stop at Cy Creek’s attempt at a goal in the first half. Strikes on goal by Maddie Verrett, Meagan Hallmark, Morgan Longand Elizabeth Byrd were all stopped by the Cy Creek goalkeeper. Bre Blalock passed to Nicole Abbey, scoring again for 2 - 0 on the scoreboard at the half.

Several strikes on goal by Gracie Howard, Avery Rushing, Nicole Abbeyand Elizabeth Bryd were all stopped by the Cy Creek goalkeeper. Finally with just 12 minutes left in the game, Bre Blalock connected with Maddie Verrett to score: SHS 3 - CCHS 0. Despite the crazy wind, the Lady Spartans now had momentum and were getting into sync! Cassidy Syamken trapped the ball at midfield, passed to Gracie Howard, who passed to Maddie Verrett to score again: SHS 4 - CCHS 0. A corner kick by Avery Rushing started off play to allow Gracie Howard to score Stratford’s 5th goal. A stop was made by Piper Miller, who passed to Avery Rushing, then Meagan Hallmark, and on to Gracie Howard, striking again for 6 on the board. Morgan Long gained control of the ball and passed to Avery Rushing, scoring the last goal of the game. Final Score SHS 7 - CCHS 0.

vs. Northbrook HS 2/24

On Friday, February 24 the Stratford JV team traveled to Northbrook High School to play their tenth district game. Elizabeth Bryd had a great shot at goal, but it was stopped by Northbrook’s goalkeeper. Piper Miller threw the ball in to Avery Rushing, who passed to Gracie Howard, then on to Nicole Abbey to score the first goal of the game! Elizabeth Byrd passed to Nicole Abbey, who scored yet again: SHS 2 - NHS 0.

Chassity Mandley took control of the ball, then passed to Avery Rushing, scoring goal number 3 of the game. Cate Shofner trapped the ball and passed to Morgan Long, and on to Maddie Verrettreaching Chassity Mandley to score the last goal of the first half: SHS 4- NHS 0.

In the second half, a corner kick by Avery Rushing was trapped by Meagan Hallmark, who connected with Gracie Howard to score 5-0 with 27 minutes on the clock. Cate Shofner took control of the ball and passed to Gracie Howardthen on to Avery Rushing to score: SHS 6 - NHS 0. The Lady Spartans had several touches on the ball in front of the goal and finally Gracie Howard snuck one in for 7-0 on the board and 10 minutes left on the clock. Cate Shofner passed to Nicole Abbey, who scored Stratford’s 8th goal of the game. With just a few minutes left in the game, a couple of fouls were called. SHS Goalkeeper Olivia Harbison stopped Northbrook’s free kick, and then Bre Blalock blocked the next free kick with just seconds left on the clock.

Final score: SHS 8 - NHS 0

The SHS JV girls play Spring Woods High School this Wednesday, March 1 at Tully Stadium at 5:30 pm, and they play Cy Ridge High School on Saturday, March 4 at Pridgeon Stadium at 10:00 am. Come out and support the mighty undefeated JV girls soccer team!
