JV Girls Soccer Easily Defeats Jersey Village 6-0 and Cy Fair 8-0

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a soccer game! The Stratford JV girls faced off against Jersey Village on Tuesday evening at Tully Stadium. About seven minutes in, Elizabeth Byrd’s shot on goal was saved by the JVHS goalie. Chassity Mandley’s shot on goal was blocked by their goalie, bounced back and then was kicked in by Avery Rushing: SHS 1 - JVHS 0. A corner kick by Avery Rushing was trapped by Chassity Mandley, passed back to Cassidy Syamken, who kicked it in the goal for 2-0 on the scoreboard. The Spartans continued to have many successful passes between all players. Bre Blaylock’s shot on goal was blocked by JVHS goalie, and the girls went into halftime with score of SHS 2- JVHS 0.

The Lady Spartans continued to maintain possession of the ball in the second half. About ten minutes in, a shot by Morgan Long was saved by their goalkeeper. Nicole Abbey took a shot and scored: SHS 3- JVHS 0.

Elizabeth Byrd had a nice strike at the goal but was caught by goalie; however, just a few minutes later, she had another opportunity to shoot the ball, this time resulting in a score of 4-0. Gracie Howard passed to Meagan Hallmark, whose shot on goal was stopped by the Jersey Village goalkeeper. Elizabeth Byrd passed to Nicole Abbey, whose attempt was also stopped by their goalie. A foul was called, and a beautiful free kick made by Cassidy Syamken put 5-0 on the board. Gracie Howard completed a nice cross to Maddie Verrett, whose shot was blocked by the goalie. Gracie Howard passed to Elizabeth Byrd, reaching Chassity Mandley, who scored Stratford’s last goal of the game. The final score was Stratford 6 - Jersey Village 0.

vs. Cy Fair 2.17.23

The Stratford JV girls traveled to Pridgeon Stadium to play Cy Fair HS on Friday, February 17. Just three minutes into the game,  Chassity Mandley completed a pass to Nicole Abbey, reaching Gracie Howard to score: SHS 1- CFHS 0. Chassity Mandley passed to Avery Rushing, striking the goal for 2-0 on the board. After a near miss by Chassity Mandley, she threw the ball in play to Elizabeth Byrd, whose ball was blocked by a Cy Fair defender, then trapped in the middle by Cassidy Syamken, who sailed the ball over the Cy Fair goalkeeper’s head for a score of 3-0. Nothing could penetrate the strong defense of Piper Miller, Claire Lamon, Julia Wolf, and Bre Blalock, and a free kick by Cy Fair was successfully stopped by our goalkeeper Olivia Harbison. The Lady Spartans held Cy Fair High School to 3-0 going into halftime.

The Stratford team started the second half strong. A few minutes in, Chassity Mandley crossed to Gracie Howard with a near miss. Avery Rushing successfully placed a corner kick in goal for 4-0 on the board. Elizabeth Byrd took the ball up the middle and passed to Avery Rushing, who left-footed the ball in goal: SHS 5 - CFHS 0. Chassity Mandley’s shot hit the post, and Nicole Abbey’s shot was stopped by their goalie, but Elizabeth Bryd was able to break away up the middle and scored 6-0. Avery Rushing’s corner kick reached Meagan Hallmark to score; SHS 7- CFHS 0. A throw-in by Sara Asander to Meagan Hallmark to Chassity Mandley with a perfect bend in goal made the final score of the game: Stratford 8 - Cy Fair 0. Way to go, Lady Spartans!

This week the JV girls have a home game against Cy Creek on Tuesday at 5:30 pm and an away game at Northbrook High School on Friday at 5:30 pm.
