vs. Jersey Village

The game kicked off under a beautiful pink sky as the Spartans took on Jersey Village on the road on Valentine's Day.
The Spartans maintained possession for the first few minutes of the game before things began to get shaky. The first goal was quickly scored by Jersey Village off a break-away, where the shot slipped under the goalkeeper Yovanny Rodriguez's arm. The boys fought hard to get a goal back with some brilliant through balls by Ricky Estrada and Oliver Burdick, but they just couldn't hit the back of the net. A couple minutes later, Jersey Village bagged their second goal. Spartans continued to fight hard to get to the halftime break, ending the half down 2-0.

The team started the second half strong with a few shots on goal. The defense got organized and held off the opposing side well. Jersey Village got a shot off, but Pablo Reyes was there for a miraculous save. With 15 min left on the clock, Dawson Burgett hit a screaming free kick from 20 yards out and put Stratford on the board. They continued to create chances and were so close to the equalizer, but in the end fell short and left the field heartbroken on Valentine's Day.

vs. Cy Fair

JV-A kicked off against Cy Fair in an intense match up at Tully Stadium under the Friday Night Lights! The boys quickly got their first shot on goal, but it sailed just over the bar. Shortly after, Oliver Burdick connected to Theo Birgirimanawho slipped it through to Lorenzo Maule for a solid finish. At the 17 min mark, Stratford earned a penalty, but Brendan Storey just missed wide. A few minutes later, Cy Fair got the equalizer and the first half ended 1-1.

The second half began and Cy Fair caught the boys off-guard to take a 2-1 lead. Thankfully the Spartans quickly responded to level the score 2-2. With the momentum on our side, Lorenzo Maule got a goal off a breakaway to make it 3-2. Lorenzo Maule quickly struck again to make it a hat trick. 4-2 Spartans! With a few minutes left in the game, Oliver Burdick drove a corner low that took a deflection, and Alimas Ndaye scored with a tap-in. The Spartans showed resilience and played with team commitment and passion!

Come cheer on the boys this week as they play at Cy Creek on Tuesday (5:45 pm) and at Tully against Northbrook on Friday (5:45 pm).
