vs. Jersey Village

Our JV-B Boys broke some hearts on the Jersey Village field on Valentine's Day with a clean sheet and seven goals! Bernardo Sanchez scored within the first two minutes, putting Stratford on the board. The boys possessed the ball in the Jersey Village half of the field for most of the first period. Fardin Ansari added another quick goal to put Stratford ahead 2-0.

In the second half, the flood gates opened for Stratford with Jersey Village giving up another five unanswered goals. Fardin Ansari took a gorgeous bending shot from 20 yards out and over the keeper's head. Then Goyo Hijosa-Larriba took a corner kick, and Andrew Lumpkin connected for an amazing header! Carson Rushing's persistence on a few opportunities eventually led to the fifth goal for Stratford. The sixth goal started with Miles Burdick passing to Fardin Ansari, who then connected to Goyou Hijosa-Larriba with a powerful shot. The final goal started with Goyo Hijosa-Larriba dribbling down the field and passing the ball off to Sergio Andrade, who then passed to Rafael Cordero for the finish. Other notable performances came from Jack Bermack, as he played the entire game and kept a clean sheet.

vs. Cy Fair

The Spartans extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 1-1 tie at home on Friday against Cy Fair. The team began the game directly facing into a strong (and cold!) wind, which significantly impacted play. The Spartans nearly were gifted with a score ten minutes into the game on a wind-impacted free kick off the foot of Andrew Lumpkin from 40 yards out that the Cy Fair goalkeeper misplayed but was then able to swat away before it crossed the goal line. The Spartans did well to avoid allowing a goal in the first half with the wind at Cy Fair's back, with goalkeeper Jack Bermack making a couple of nice saves. Offensively, the Spartans struggled to get much going against the wind, and the first half ended scoreless for both teams.

The boys quickly took advantage of the wind at their backs in the second half, mustering several early scoring opportunities that culminated in a goal off the left foot of Bernardo Sanchez five minutes into the half. Just when it looked like the Spartans were nearing on offensive onslaught, Cy Fair countered with a quick goal in return to knot the game back up at 1-1. The Spartans created significant offensive pressure for most of the balance of the game and had three or four shots go just wide of either goal post, but were unable to find the net, resulting in the 1-1 tie.

Show up to support the team as they take on Cy Creek on the road Tuesday (4:30 pm) and at Tully against Northbrook on Friday (4:30 pm).
