vs. Cy Ridge

The Spartans started off the week with a 2-0 win on the road at Cy Ridge in a swirling wind. The Spartans applied offensive pressure early in the game. Five minutes in, Fardin Ansari received a ball from off of a free kick near mid-field, slipped past the defender, and took a hard shot on goal that just caught the crossbar. The effort did not prove futile as the follow-up play off the rebound resulted in a foul on Cy Ridge inside the box, and Fardin Ansari converted to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. The balance of the half was largely uneventful with the Spartans controlling time of possession for the bulk of the half, and neither team converted on goal-scoring opportunities.

The second half was more of the same until 10 minutes in at which point Bernardo Sanchez received a ball off of a free kick by Andrew Lumpkin and was able to maneuver around a defender and the Cy Ridge goalkeeper and found a wide-open net to put the Spartans up 2-0. The Spartans continued to maintain control through the rest of the game to secure the victory behind the clean sheet at goalkeeper from the combination of Jack Bermack and Santi Perez.

vs. Memorial

It was a gorgeous night at Tully field as the Battle of the Beltway began with our JV-B team taking the field. Everyone was bundled up and ready to watch our Spartans get another win on our home turf! The boys came out to win and it showed as Stratford managed to keep the ball in the Stratford half for the first 10 min. Our first opportunity came when Carson Rushing made a strong pass to Fardin AnsariFardin Ansari controlled the ball and dribbled through multiple Memorial players to put Stratford on the scoreboard first. It wasn't long after that, Fardin Ansari dribbled in from the 30-yd line, passing through Memorial's defensive line and scoring again for the Spartans putting us at a 2-0 lead. Memorial scored their first goal when they were able to take advantage of a simple mistake and miscommunication by our Spartan players. The first half ended with a great defensive play by Andrew Lumpkinleaving Stratford in the lead by one goal.

The second half began and the boys continued to have many goal-scoring opportunities, but just couldn't make anything happen. Fardin Ansari was fouled in the box and took the PK, but it was saved by the keeper. Our Spartans had a corner kick that Andrew Lumpkin tried for a header, but it went just over the goal. The Spartans were able to continue playing defensively to keep the score 2-1 Stratford until the end. Spartans win the Battle of the Beltway!

Come cheer on the team this week as they are on the road on Tuesday against Jersey Village on 2.14 and at home on Friday 2.17 against Cy Fair.
