vs. Cy-Creek Cougars
The SHS JV-A boys soccer began their District games on Friday, January 27th at home against Cy-Creek. After a rain out on Tuesday against Cy-Fair, the boys were eager and excited to play. Just 4 minutes into the game, Stratford had their 1st chance at goal with an acrobatic shot by Oliver Burdick, which was ruled offsides. The boys kept fighting and at 21:00 minutes on the clock the tempo changed! Oliver Burdick took a corner kick with a cross to Lorenzo Maule for a strong header into the near-side for Stratford's first goal of the game. The boys were passing well, and Lorenzo Maule played a through-ball to Brendan Storey, but his shot skimmed off left post and went just wide of the goal. The Spartans 2nd goal came when Brendan Storey found a through-ball which was initially thought to be offsides by the linesman, but confirmed to be onside by the center ref. The boys finished the first half with a lead of 2-0 against Cy-Creek.
2nd half began a little flat, but Stratford continued to work hard as a team and compete. With 25:00 minutes on the clock in the 2nd half, Oliver Burdick took a free kick from the 20 yard line but it hit crossbar. Cy-Creek scored their first goal with a breakaway. Stratford keeper, Pablo Reyes, came out and Cy-Creek had a tap-in for finish. SHS 2 - Cy-Creek 1.
At 16:00 minutes on the clock, Lorenzo Maule, scored again with an amazing through-ball from Julio Garcia. The Cy-Creek keeper came out, and Lorenzo Maule had a clear shot on goal! SHS 3 - Cy-Creek 1.
With just 5 minutes left on the clock, Cy-Creek was able to pull off one more goal.
The final score of the game was Stratford Spartans 3 - Cy-Creek Cougars 2.
