SHS JV Lady Spartans vs. Dawson High School Lady Eagles

The SHS Lady Spartans traveled to Pearland to play the Dawson High School Lady Eagles on Wednesday, January 18. Stratford started strong and maintained possession of the ball most of the half. A pass from Cate Shofner to Elizabeth Byrd put Stratford on the board with 21:00 on the clock. Shortly after, it was Elizabeth Byrd again for back-to-back goals: SHS 2 - DHS 0. A nice block of the Eagles free kick made by Goalkeeper Olivia Harbison kept Stratford’s lead by 2. The Lady Spartans continued their offensive drive. Piper Miller sent the ball to Gracie Howard, who sent it on to Cate Shofner, who scored at 13:13 on the clock: SHS 3 - DHS 0. A lot of action in front of the goal allowed Avery Rushing to cross the ball to Maddie Verrett, who tapped it in the goal for a 4 - 0 score with 5 minutes left in the first half. Nothing could penetrate our powerful defensive line - Bre Blalock, Madison Gallerano, Kate Michaels, & Sarah Fahdli, and the Spartans ended the half with Dawson scoreless and a 4-goal lead.

Just 3 minutes into the second half, Chassity Mandley gained possession of the ball and passed to Morgan Long, who sent it to Avery Rushing to score: SHS 5 - DHS 0.

At 28:15 on the clock Chassity Mandley takes control of the ball again and she shoots for a goal. Stratford now leads by 6 goals. A corner kick by Avery Rushing is sent to Morgan Long, who passed to Chassity Mandley, scoring again: SHS 7 - DHS 0.

Goalkeeper Jenna Dunavin makes a nice stop, but there was a flag on the play allowing the Eagles a free kick. The Eagles are able to sneak one in: SHS 7 - DHS 1 at 22:00 on the clock. Good effort by all players and several attempts at goal just barely missing the net. Stratford continues to hold them to just one goal. The final score of the game is Stratford Spartans 7- Dawson Eagles 1.

Come support our Lady Spartans at home on Tuesday against Cy-Fair HS at 5:30.
