JV Preseason Game vs. Klein Cain on Tuesday, January 10

From the start of their preseason game on Tuesday against Klein Cain, our JV Lady Spartans took control of the ball with good passing technique. About 15 minutes into the game, Elizabeth Byrd passed to Gracie Howard, who connected with Avery Rushing, who scored, putting Stratford on the board 1-0. Shortly thereafter, Cate Shofner passed to Nicole Abbey and on to Avery Rushing with a good attempt at a goal. Momentum was high and Spartans were determined to score again. Elizabeth Byrd passed to Avery Rushing, scoring to put Stratford in the lead 2-0 at the half.

While there wasn’t a score by either team in the second half, the girls continued to maintain control and pass the ball well. There were several attempts at goal by Cassidy Syamken and Nicole Abbey and some great stops by both goal keepers Olivia Harbison and Jenna Dunavin. Our defensive line worked hard to preserve the 2 - 0 lead. Excellent communication by Olivia Harbison helped keep the team spaced out well and in position throughout the game.

JV’s next game is on Wednesday, January 18 at Dawson High School. Preseason games come to an end with a JV tournament in The Woodlands on Saturday, January 21, and the first district game is on Tuesday, January 24 at SHS against CY-Fair.
