The sophomore boy's basketball team had a fast start to the season with 4 games in five days. The boys were victorious in all 4 and won the SBISD sub varsity tournament, which concluded Saturday.

vs. Bridgeland

The season started at Bridgeland Tuesday with the boys struggling in the first half before pulling away in the second half, outscoring them 27-10. The scoring was paced by Cameron Cocheu (14 pts, 8 reb) and Caden Bush (7 pts, 5 reb). After struggling to connect from the perimeter early, 4 second-half 3's created space, and the defensive persistence allowed for them to pull away 44-32.

vs. Katy Taylor

In the SBISD tournament, a hard-fought game with Katy Taylor ended 42-41 in overtime. Parker Johnson (9 pts), Kolt Kurek (7 pts, 3 reb) and Cocheu (7 pts, 5 reb) led the team offensively. The team worked together with every player registering a rebound and 9 players having steals. They fought off late opportunities in regulation and overtime to seal the win.

vs. Cy Park

Game two of the tournament was against an athletic fast-paced team in Cy Park. Our boys attacked their pressure defense and cruised to a 62-38 victory. The intensity spanned the entire 32 minutes and our guys stayed aggressive. Kurek led the team with 21 points and they had no answer to his attacking. Cocheu (12 pts, 12 rebs, 4 blocks) inside was helped by his fellow big Bush (12 pts).

vs. Memorial in Championship

The sophomore Championship on Saturday featured a rivalry matchup against Memorial. After an early season scrimmage left a bad taste, the boys pressured Memorial at every opportunity and ran away 53-21. Every player scored in the game. The boys had assists on half of their baskets and really locked arms and refused to have a repeat of the early-season scrimmage. This very deep team outscored them in the second half 27-8 with waves of fresh players pressuring Memorial. Top performances in the final included Andrew Marks (5 pts, 2 reb, 3 steals, 1 block, and 2 deflections) who was in the middle of every play throughout. Johnson also was very balanced with 9 points, 2 each of reb, assists, and steals. Cocheu (8 pts, 7 reb, 4 steals , 2 assists, 5 deflections) and Kurek (8 pts, 2 rebs) also stayed active throughout.
