Nine Stratford student athletes closed out the high school cross country season at the UIL 6A State meet on Friday. On the biggest stage, against the best that Texas has to offer, our Spartan runners performed well and created memories that will last a lifetime.

On the wet, muddy, and rolling hills course at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, our Spartan girls finished 14th as a team, and both of our boys finished top-70 in the individual standings. This was the fifth year out of the last six that our girls team has competed at State. The year they missed qualifying during that stretch was the Covid year when the number of regional qualifiers was reduced from four to three (we finished 4th that year). What an amazing accomplishment it was to return to Round Rock as a team again this season.

Niamh Collins was 57th overall (19:42) to lead the Spartan girls, followed by Allie Weinhardt in 92nd (20:18), Maggie Pearce in 107th (20:37), Anastasia Sciretti in 115th (20:48), Siena Yoder at 116th (20:50), Josie Heim in 128th (21:11), and Amelia Bommer in 146th (21:44).

Lewisville Flower Mound won the girls 6A state championship for the third year in a row, followed by Southlake Carroll in second and Humble Kingwood in third.

In the boys individual competition, Spartan Ben Pearce was 45th overall (16:29) and David Kalwahali was 68th (16:44).

The Southlake Carroll boys won their fourth straight team title, followed by Austin Vandegrift in second, and Coppell in third.
