October is finally here, and Cross Country wrapped up the regular season over the weekend. Our sub-varsity (and a few varsity athletes) ran at the Klein Bearkat Tune-Up on Friday, and our varsity teams competed at the Nike South Invitational on Saturday. Cooler, much less humid weather finally reached the Houston area last week, and the racing conditions on both days were the best our teams have experienced the entire season. Championship season begins now, and the Spartans will prepare this coming week for the District 17-6A meet that will take place on Tuesday, October 11 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball.

VARSITY - Nike South - 5 kilometer distance

The Nike South Invitational in The Woodlands is one of the most competitive and prestigious high school cross country meets held in Texas each year. The meet attracts a slew of top cross country runners and teams from across Texas, as well as a few top teams from Oklahoma and other states. The field in both the girls and boys elite divisions this year included state-ranked and nationally ranked individuals and high school teams, and our Spartans competed well despite missing key contributors on both sides (boys and girls). Quite a few personal bests were achieved in the 5k elite race, and that should serve as a nice confidence booster as we head into the post-season.

Our Spartan girls finished 11 out of 21 teams in the Varsity Elite division. There were 140 individual finishers.
