JV Girls v St Agnes JV 9/24 at Strake Jesuit pool

Not much rest for the girls who fought their all Friday night, but you’d never know it by the way they played Saturday morning. What a day for the Stratford JV girls with three Spartans scoring “hat- tricks” and textbook water polo play from the entire team.

The game started with junior Lindsay Wong winning the swim-in, a sophomore Sarah Beth Roady-forced turnover, a soph Hana Riley-interception and then a Wong to freshman Lilli Oteiza goal from 3 meters. Shortly after, Riley made a goal on her own rebound. Freshman Molly Kate Minyard played tough defense that resulted in another Riley goal from the left side. The period ended with a 4-meter power shot from freshman Elizabeth Conner. 4-0 end of one; goalie freshman Bella Smith proving her mettle with no goals made on her watch. No scoring in the second period, but Leah Claire “LC” Nall was all over the ball on the defensive side. Junior Caroline Steranko showed her defensive chops; MinyardWong, and Riley continued to hustle the turnover.

Scoring picked up in the third period with Conner scoring twice on assists from Minyard and Roady, and Riley swimming it down the field and scoring. Hat-tricks: Hana Riley, Elizabeth Conner. In the fourth quarter, freshman goalie Emmie Hanvey’s strength was on display with multiple monster blocks and an outstanding save on a 5-meter penalty shot. Elizabeth Conner scored on a winning Roady swim-off. Play continued with steals from Conner, Steranko, Minyard, and Wong; interceptions from Nall, a monster in-field block from Wong and a strategic inside goal from Sarah Beth Roady. Three more goals from the tireless Conner and two from Oteiza, the last one of the game on her own rebound. Hat-trick: Oteiza Double hat-trick + 1: Conner (!) Tremendous effort from every player in the 14-1 win over St. Agnes.
