VARSITY

The Spartans didn’t have far to travel this week as they competed in the Strake Jesuit Invitational at Bear Creek Park. It was a pleasant Saturday morning for racing, and the Spartans performed well against a strong field of runners on both the boys and girls sides.

Girls - 5 kilometer distance (3.1 miles)

Our varsity girls earned third-place out 12 schools in the team competition, only behind the meet champions, Katy Tompkins, and second-place Richmond George Ranch.

Niamh Collins and Siena Yoder led the team with strong performances again this week as each finished in the top-10 overall. Both girls have been incredibly consistent to this point in the season.

Maggie Pearce and Anastasia Sciretti earned valuable points by finishing in the top-20, and all five of the point-earners on the girls team finished in the top-35 overall.

Girls Results: (93 finishers)

  • Niamh Collins - 8th - 19:47 (6:23 avg. per mile pace)
  • Siena Yoder - 10th - 20:05 (6:29)
  • Maggie Pearce - 14th - 20:18 (6:33)
  • Anastasia Sciretti - 20th - 20:44 (6:41)
  • Amelia Bommer - 35th - 21:45 (7:01)
  • Josie Heim - 51st - 22:48 (7:21)
  • Leah Jordan - 59th - 23:19 (7:31)
  •

Boys  - 5 kilometer distance (3.1 miles)

The Spartan varsity boys finished fourth-place out of 12 schools, behind the meet champions, Strake Jesuit, second-place Katy Tompkins, and third-place Katy Seven Lakes.

David Kalwahali and Ben Pearce had very impressive outings again this week, finishing 2nd and 8th overall, respectively. Kalwahali ran with the lead pack the entire race, and when it had been narrowed down to three racers near the end, he was able to finish strong down the final stretch to win the second-place medal. His 5k time of 15:34 puts him in the top tier of the class 6A- region 3 rankings thus far this season.

Pearce ran a very smart race by remaining patient early, and using his strength and stamina to slowly pick off runners one-by-one all the way to the finish. His time of 16:11 was a personal best by a wide-margin.

Boys Results: (99 finishers)

  • David Kalwahali - 2nd - 15:34 (5:01 avg. per mile pace)
  • Ben Pearce - 8th - 16:11 (5:13)
  • Daylan Rushing - 25th - 17:00 (5:29)
  • Justin Kaimann - 28th - 17:11 (5:33)
  • Sam Jordan - 46th - 17:54 (5:47)
  • Jake Rodriguez - 53rd - 18:05 (5:50)
  • Day’vonne Singleton - 96th - 21:38 (6:59)
