Varsity started the week off with a bang, hosting Klein Cain on Tuesday. The Spartans avenged a lopsided loss from last year by winning in a straight-set rout. The outcome was never in doubt, as Stratford won each set by double-digit margins. The win gave Coach Adcock the chance to play multiple combinations against a team just two years removed from the Regional finals.

On Thursday and Saturday, Varsity travelled to the Clear Creek ISD Tournament to play a slate of top area teams. The Spartans picked up Thursday where they left off, with dominant straight-set wins against Clements, Kingwood, and Deer Park. The sweep of the Thursday matches advances Stratford to the Gold Medal bracket as one of just 6 teams to not drop a set on the opening day.

Stratford started off Saturday with a dramatic three-set thriller against pre-season No. 5 state-ranked Ridge Point. After winning the first set and being 2 points from victory, the Spartans couldn’t seal the deal and lost the next two sets in close scores. Stratford then fell to Lake Creek and Langham Creek to finish 8th out of 32 teams.

This week also marked the 1,000th dig of Olivia Abbott’s high school career. Despite COVID pauses to play, she reached this amazing milestone while anchoring Varsity’s back-row defense the last few seasons. Congrats Liv!

Varsity travels this week to Kingwood on Tuesday and then hosts Cy Fair on Friday. The home matchup against Cy Fair starts at 5:30 pm on Friday - come on out and let’s make it loud!
