After two and a half months of early-morning training sessions together over the summer, the Spartans finally got to put their spikes on and test their fitness on Saturday. It’s a new season with two new head coaches and lots of new faces, and the athletes, coaches, and families all came together for a fun-filled morning at the Cypress XC Relays at Spring Creek Park in Tomball.

This event, unlike a traditional cross country meet, was a two-person relay competition. Each athlete alternated with their teammate in running the 1-mile loop course. The varsity girls and boys and the junior varsity boys ran 2 miles each (each runner ran two, 1 mile legs in alternating fashion), and the JV girls and freshman boys ran 1 mile each.

Many medals were won, and every Stratford athlete competed with heart and determination. It was a successful start to the season and a good tune-up for the season ahead.
