2/9 - SHS vs. Northbrook – 81 – 27 (W)

Anyone expecting the JV Boys’ to play with any less enthusiasm or energy due to the emotional victories the previous week were in for a disappointing week of basketball. The Spartans rode the chariot to, two resounding victories this week. First up were the Raiders of Northbrook, who had the unfortunate task of facing the Spartans, still reeling off their success the previous week’s games.

As repetitive as it sounds, defense is this team’s strongest asset; whether pressing a team full – court, picking up the man cutting through the lane or rotating to pick up the next man – it is a sight to see, especially in a game where offense gets the shine!

The closest the Raiders would get to the Spartans was the score at the beginning of the game, 0 – 0, and they would never be that close in scoring to the Spartans the rest of the game. The first quarter saw the Spartans end with a 25 – 10 lead. The second and third quarters had to be the best defensive runs of the year, while allowing the Raiders to only score a total of 5 points in both quarters, the Spartans went off for 39 points of their own. Spartans led 36 – 13 at the half and 64 – 15 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Raiders score the most they had scored in any quarter of the game, 12 points but unfortunately the Spartans scored 17, which ultimately led to the 81 – 27 victory.

2/12 – SHS vs Cy-Ridge – 72 – 23 (W)

Cool, sunny Saturday mornings and Spartan victories have been the trend for the last two weekends. This Saturday morning was no different! The Rams of Cy – Ridge felt the freeze as the Spartans put their offensive output on ice the entire game. If you attended the game on Wednesday, you may have felt as though you had entered the twilight zone because the only difference in both contests were the colors the opposing team were wearing.

Once again, the Spartans got off to good start that only got better as the game went on. The first quarter ended with the Spartans leading 14 – five; the second and third quarters looked eerily familiar to the game on Wednesday. The Spartans held the Rams to a total of 10 points in both quarters, while scoring 36 points of their own. The Spartans led 36 – 13 at the half (the same score on Wednesday) and 50 – 15 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter saw the Rams equal the highest scoring quarter of 8 points, but once again, similar to Wednesday’s game, the Spartans scored 22 points. The game ended with a 72 – 23 Spartan victory.

Game stats:

  • Heayden Daly – 13 pts, 2 rebs, 1 assist, 4 steals
  • Wes Wohlfart – 12 pts, 4 rebs, 4 steals
  • Will Messer – 10 pts, 1 reb, 3 steals
  • Jake Brand – 7 pts, 2 rebs, 3 assists, 2 steals
  • Kamari Stanfill – 6 pts, 5 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal
  • Payton Sarrat – 6 pts, 1 reb, 1 assist
  • Jason Kaiman – 4 pts, 2 rebs, 1 steal
  • Hunter Jones – 3 pts, 1 reb, 1 steal
  • Will Meadows – 3 pts.
  • Josh Yu – 2 pts, 5 rebs, 1 steal, 1 block
  • Wes Stallings – 2 pts, 1 reb, 2 blocks
  • Travis Dunwoody – 2 pts, 2 rebs
  • Ethan Kling – 2 pts, 1 steal

The Spartans have a 13 – 1-district record and look to add another victory to this outstanding season, and ending the season as DISTRICT CHAMPS! The last game of this season is against Cy – Fair on Wednesday 2/16 @Cy-Fair High School 5:30 pm (regular start time).
