Freshman A – week of 1/31/22

2/2/22 – SHS v Memorial 38-36 (W)

The Spartans headed into the week 9-0 in District and started the week at home against rival Memorial. Much like the first time the Spartans played the Mustangs in district, both teams started off extremely slow.  However, early in the 2nd half the Mustangs started pulling away and had a double-digit lead on the Spartans mid-way through the 3rd quarter.  However, the Spartans, did not give up and on the strong play of Rocco Henderson, Jadarrion Cheeves and Joaquin Andrews the Spartans tied the game up late in the 4th quarter.  With 5 second left on the clock, the Spartans had the ball, Andrews with the ball at the top of the key, started driving in.  As the defense collapse on him, he passed the ball off to Parker Johnson who off one dribble at the baseline put up a beautiful jump shot…and ALL NET… a buzzer beater for the WIN!!  This completed the sweep of the Mustangs for the season and was a much-needed win on the road to District Champs.

2/5/22 – SHS v. Cy Creek – 38-29 (W)

The Spartans were on the road on Saturday against the Cy Creek Cougars for a 9:00am game.  The boys clearly were not quite awake for the start of the game only scoring 1 point in the first quarter.  Thankfully, the Creek boys were not any more awake than our boys and only managed 11 points the first quarter.  It was much the same the second quarter.  The Spartans were able to turn the tables a bit scoring 14 to the Cougar’s 4 points and headed into half 15 all.

The 2nd half of the game the Spartans woke up a bit and were able to begin pulling away.  The Spartans held the Cougars to just 2 points in the 3rd quarter and were up 28-17 after three.  The 4th quarter was a little more even between the two team with the Spartans pulling out the win 38-29 and going 11-0 in district!
