1/26 - SHS vs. Jersey Village – 82 – 36 (W)

The Spartans started the second round of district, similar to the way they started the first round, with a 2 – 0 start against their opponents. First up were The Falcons Jersey Village, who ran into a determined and focused Spartan team from the start of the game until the final buzzer sounded ending the contest.

The Spartans came out of the gate with efficient shooting and focused defense, limiting the Falcons to 8 first quarter points, while scoring 20 points themselves. The defensive lockdown continued throughout the contest with the Spartans limiting their opponents scoring to an average of 9 points per quarter, and an eventual 82 – 36 victory. The Spartans saw one of their key contributors go down with a leg injury, hoping to see him back in action soon!

1/29 – SHS vs Spring Woods – 64 – 33 (W)

The cool, sunny Saturday morning was a welcome start to the Spartans contest against the Tigers of Spring Woods High School. The Spartans showed no effects of an early morning game and came out with victory on their minds. Anyone watching the Spartans play this year, can agree that defense is the ‘golden ticket’ for this team; when the offensive may be off to a slow start, defense is always reading and willing to take over the game. This game looked eerily similar the previous contest. The Spartans 1st quarter showcase of defense led to a 22 – 1 lead, and it only continued into the 2nd quarter, with the Spartans ahead 32 – 11. The second half was a little better for the Tigers in that they scored 11 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters, unfortunately for them the Spartans continued scoring as well; 13 points in the 3rd quarter and 19 points in the 4th. The barrage of offense led to a 64 – 33 victory.

Game stats:

  • Will Messer – 21 pts, 1 steal
  • Heayden Daly – 8 pts, 4 rebs, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block
  • Wes Wohlfart – 7 pts, 8 rebs, 4 assists, 1 steal
  • Will Meadows – 6 pts, 4 rebs
  • Kamari Stanfill – 5 pts, 3 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal
  • Hunter Jones – 5 pts, 3 rebs
  • Jason Kaiman – 5 pts, 1 reb, 1 block
  • Payton Sarrat – 4 pts, 1 reb, 1 assist, 3 blocks
  • Jake Brand – 3 pts, 2 rebs, 1 assist, 2 steals
  • Wes Stallings – 3 rebs, 1 assist, 1 steal, 3 blocks
  • Josh Yu – 1 reb, 2 blocks
  • Ethan Kling – 1 assist
