Stratford vs Cypress Fair

It was an exciting week of soccer for our Stratford Lady Spartan Varsity team as they kicked off their first two district games of the season. Tuesday’s district opener at home against a very talented Cy-Fair Bobcats team did not disappoint.  It was a hard-fought game with some great footwork on both sides.  A beautiful shot from the 30, into the wind, by Elizabeth Pretzantzin put Stratford on the board mid-way through the first half. Both teams continued to battle hard heading into the second half. Despite some great shots on net by Cy-Fair, it was not enough to get past the defensive line and goalie Allison Zilafro.  Stratford wins 1-0.

Stratford vs Cypress Ridge

On Friday, the team traveled to Cy-Ridge High School for its second district showdown against the Rams. Stratford dominated possession throughout the match.  Our Spartan midfield was consistently first to the ball due to great play and hustle from Kristin Geczik, Ryann Weber, MC Paul, Ryleigh Toner, Lizzy Emerson, and Elizabeth Pretzantzin.  The Spartan defense was airtight as Cy-Ridge struggled to get a shot off all night long.  Defenders Ellie Stephenson, Whitney Bui, Annika DeJager, Kendall Emery, and Hannah Ryan not only stifled Cy-Ridge but also did a great job passing as the Spartans dominated time of possession.

Cy-Ridge packed tight their defensive zone and our Lady Spartans struggled to breakthrough as well.  Finally, a quick passing sequence in the later part of the first half from Lauren Ahearn to Allison Goodwin to Ryleigh Toner put Stratford on the scoreboard.  Another goal quickly followed by Allison Goodwin with an assist from Hope Coltrin making it 2-0 at halftime. Stratford methodically continued to wear down Cy-Ridge and stretched the lead in the 2nd half with goals scored by Hope Coltrin, Ryann Weber, and Lauren Ahearn due to great passes from Ryann Weber, Hope Coltrin and MC Paul for a final score Stratford 5, Cy-Ridge 0. Truly a team win accomplished in business-like fashion.

The Spartans continue district action Wednesday, February 2, with a home game versus the fighting Spring Woods Tigers.  Please come and support our gals!
