It was a clean sweep for Head Coach Alexis Green’s Stratford Girl’s Basketball program last week!

The Varsity laid waste to Spring Woods on Saturday, 63-36, putting up a lot of points in the process. Senior Audrey Hernandez had a stellar day on the court with 26 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Senior Jasmine Green recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Rachel Ashby had seven points, 10 steals and four assists. Junior defensive specialist Lily McClanahan had five steals and helped spark the offense as well with six points.

On Wednesday the Spartans slugged it out with Jersey Village before prevailing, 36-33. Hernandez knocked down five three-point shots to carry the Spartans with 17 points. Ashby tallied two threes of her own to finish with nine points. The Varsity is now 7-4 in district play and has their eyes on postseason success!

The Junior Varsity is also 7-4 in district! They easily handled Spring Woods in a 42-19 surprisingly physical win. Sophomore Ryan Greenwood had to leave the game with a bloody nose after putting in six points and Freshman ball-handler Ella O’Connor used her vocal leadership in newfound ways. Sophomore Kendall Zoboroski lead the team with 10 points. Sophomores Julie Lee and Katherine Perkins also scored six apiece.

It was also a slugfest for the JV in Wednesday’s win vs. Jersey Village! Greenwood lead the team with 10 points. Sophomores Ella Pezzia scored six, Lali Vega and Zoboroski each scored five.

The Freshmen are on a roll! Coach Green got two new coaches this year in Audrisa Harrison and Khedrick Dixon and their presence is probably best reflected in how the youngest Spartans are getting coached daily. They are sitting at 17-4, 10-0 in district play! Spring Woods was no match for this group as the Spartans advanced 48-15. Three players tied for the scoring lead with eight: Autumn Rutz, Chassity Mandley and Kendall Davis.

It was a low-scoring affair for this team as the Spartans led only 11-6 at the half. But Davis was the story of the third quarter, scoring eight points as Stratford outscored the Falcons 14-4 in the third and then held on in the fourth to win 33-21. Davis finished with nine points and Mandley with seven.

The JV & Varsity cross the street to Don Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday to face Memorial. JV plays at 4p and Varsity at 5:30p. Freshmen play at Memorial at 4p. Stratford plays at home on Saturday; Frosh at 9a, JV at 10:30a and a noon tip-off for varsity vs. Cy-Creek.
