1/18 - SHS vs. Cy-Ridge – 67 – 40 (W)

The effects of the extended weekend was evident during the first quarter of the contest. The mix of a slow start by the Spartans and a gritty Rams team led to the Spartans trailing 11-12, at the end of the first quarter. The team picked up their intensity in the second quarter with stifling defense and efficient shooting to hold a 29 – 20 lead at half-time.

Coming out of halftime, the Spartans continued their hot play and were on fire. An offensive explosion of 23 points and a defensive clinic, holding the Rams to six points during the 3rd quarter, resulted in a 52 – 26. The Spartans never took their foot off the brake and scored 15 points during the 4th quarter, and holding the Rams to 14 points, resulting in a 67 – 40 victory.

1/21 – SHS vs Cy-Fair – 43 – 40 (W)

The pattern of the early week game continued into the contest against the Bobcats of Cy-Fair in Friday’s game. The beginning of the game was not an indication of the outcome of the contest. The Spartans started slowly, they seemed to be moving one-step behind their opponents every move. They were outscored 12 – 11 in the first quarter, trailed 25 – 18 at halftime, and were behind 32 – 27 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

If anyone expecting the 4th quarter to follow the pattern of the previous three quarters were in for a surprise. The Spartans played as though like they received an infusion of energy, defensive prowess and shooting increased and improved as if they were waiting in the wings. The Spartans relied on what has been they game changer all year – outstanding defense. They held the Bobcats to 8 points while scoring 16 points of their own. The communication and passing improved and was spot – on. The Spartans came out with the victory, 43 - 40 and every point was earned!

Game stats:

  • Kamari Stanfill – 15 pts, 1 reb, 2 steals, 1 block
  • Heayden Daly – 6 pts, 4 assists, 3 rebs, 1 steal
  • Will Meadows – 5 pts, 3 rebs, 1 assist
  • Will Messer – 5 pts, 1 reb
  • Travis Dunwoody – 4 pts, 1 reb, 1 block
  • Hunter Jones – 3 pts
  • Jason Kaiman – 3 pts
  • Payton Sarrat – 2 pts, 1 assist, 5 steals, 1 block
  • Ethan Kling – 1 assist
  • Jake Brand – 1 steal
  • Wes Stallings – 1 rebound
