On January 20, the Stratford Diving team participated in the District meet at the Spring Branch Natatorium. All three Stratford divers brought home medals; seniors Charlize Spiers and Robbie Howell each took first place for varsity, while freshman Megan Grijalva finished 2nd in the JV women’s division.

The varsity divers performed eleven dives. Charlize received judge’s awards of 5-7 points on nearly every dive, finishing with a personal best of 388 points. Her inward 1.5 tuck scored very well, and she finished with clean forward 1.5 pike. Robbie’s final score was 417 points, by far a personal best. He performed extremely well on two difficult twisting dives, and was consistently solid on all the others.

Megan has steadily improved over the season. She scored well on a back straight dive and a forward tuck. She anticipates more improvement next season. Hopefully more divers will join her!

Charlize and Robbie will next compete at the Regional meet in Conroe, in early February. There will be stiff competition to reach the state meet – come cheer them on!
